Privacy Policy for Trench Scanner

Effective Date: 15 May 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how EngSiteTools ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Trench Scanner mobile application ("the App") for iOS. We have designed Trench Scanner with privacy in mind: the App processes scan data entirely on your device and does not transmit your scans to us or any third party.

By downloading or using Trench Scanner, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. About the App

Trench Scanner is a paid iOS utility for contractors and field workers. It uses your device's camera and LiDAR sensor (via Apple's ARKit framework) to scan excavations and trenches, build a 3D mesh of the scanned area, and estimate excavated volume. Results are displayed on-screen as numerical measurements and a 3D preview.

Trench Scanner provides field estimates only and is not a substitute for certified land surveying or engineering services.

3. Information We Collect

Information processed on your device only

When you use the App, the following data is processed locally on your iPhone or iPad and is not transmitted to us:

This data exists only in your device's memory during an active scanning session. The current version of the App does not save scan data to persistent storage, and starting a new scan or leaving the scanning flow discards the prior scan.

Information we do not collect

The current version of Trench Scanner does not collect, store, or transmit:

We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or tracking technologies.

4. Information Handled by Apple

Trench Scanner is distributed through the Apple App Store. When you purchase or download the App, Apple handles payment, receipts, and your Apple Account information according to Apple's own privacy policy. We receive only aggregated, anonymised sales and download reports from Apple and do not receive your name, email address, or payment details.

ARKit and other iOS frameworks used by the App run on your device under Apple's control. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for information about how Apple handles data on iOS.

5. Permissions

Trench Scanner requests the following device permission:

Camera — Required for ARKit and LiDAR scanning. The camera feed is used solely to build the 3D scan in real time and is not recorded, saved, or transmitted by the App.

The App does not request location, contacts, photo library, microphone, or other sensitive permissions in this version.

6. Children's Privacy

Trench Scanner is intended for use by professional contractors and field workers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App's camera may incidentally capture people or objects present at a job site during scanning; users are responsible for following applicable site safety, privacy, and recording laws when operating the App.

7. Data Retention

Because we do not receive scan data, we do not retain any scan-related information on our servers. On your device, scan data is held in memory only during an active session and is discarded when a new scan begins or the session ends. iOS may temporarily cache standard app data as part of normal system operation; you can remove this by deleting the App.

8. Your Choices and Rights

Because the App does not collect personal information and has no user accounts, there is no account to delete and no personal data for us to access, correct, or export on your behalf.

You can:

If you have privacy questions or concerns, contact us at support@engsitetools.com. Australian users have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles; users in other jurisdictions may have additional rights under local law (for example, the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California). To exercise any such rights or raise a complaint, please contact us at the email above.

9. Security

Because scan data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us, security of that data relies on the standard protections provided by iOS and your device settings (passcode, Face ID/Touch ID, device encryption). We recommend keeping your device updated and protected with a passcode.

10. International Users

EngSiteTools is based in Australia. If you use the App from outside Australia, please note that the App processes data only on your device and does not transfer scan data internationally to us.

11. Product Disclaimers

Volume measurements produced by Trench Scanner are estimates intended for planning purposes only. Accuracy depends on scan quality, device hardware, environmental conditions, and user-selected settings. The App is not a certified surveying or engineering tool. Users are responsible for complying with all applicable site safety requirements and local laws.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add new features such as data export, in-app purchases for additional functionality, or cloud-based features. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App or on our support page. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
